I wanted to create an interactive piece of design for this brief, something that could be taken away from it, I thought of ideas such as creating an questionnaire and pop-ups to the letters inside the envelope, but It wasn't from these I choose to go forward with. I choose the design with the single side with a pop-out speech bubble, one of the last of my designs, a brain storm I had.
I setup my design in illustrator first, using the DL-letter size so to be mailable.
I choose to do it in the same style as to what I had done within the posters previously, same typographic layout. Just this time the message was different and more direct and specific as to what it actually meant The previous one would be easy to say it was been a bit too vague.
I then designed my speech bubble for the text to then sit inside of on the leaflet, I drew this out using the pen tool then I set it to be set on the outside of the line using the stroke customization box, the same one Simon had shown us.
I wrote up what I wanted to say for the back of the speech bubble, my message context been the Pussy Riot's performance been the basis for the wise use of freedom of speech message, I used red to then re-approached the message to get it hitting harder.
I then set this to the left, with room on the right to then place in the stamp, I added a perforation message as the line around the speech bubble on the back is to be shown and then be perforated.
I decided mid-way to have a place about with the placements and the design of the leaflet ( calling it leaflet, not really sure what to call it as of yet ) I thought this was quite interesting but I don't think there was anything I took from it in the end. The only thing I had noticed was just how big the bottom of the speech bubble was and how much room it was actually taking so I reduced the size of this down so that I could increase the size of the speech bubble.
I did a test print of the design and noticed that if I was to perforate it, it would perforate along the black line and it leaves a ugly tear where it's come apart, made visible by the black line, I wanted to bring this out a bit so it'd have room to breath and increase the impact of the message, so i put a half a cm gap around the edge as to where it would perforate instead and not leave a ugly tear. I also changed the straight line into a dotted line to have a graphic signal to it been perforated.
